Indian legendary footballer Sunil Chhetri announced on Thursday his resignation from the Indian national team. Chhetri who has played in 150 games for India and scored 94 goals in his job, took his twitter handle to X (previously Twitter) to announce that India’s upcoming 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifier game against Kuwait on June 6th will be his final game for the nation.

Chhetri on Thursday, in a long video recounted that first moment he donned the national flag and stated that it wasn’t an easy task to come to the decision.

“Whenever I train for the national team, I don’t feel stress. However, this game requires pressure. We are desperate to get 3 point win against Kuwait to make it for the next round, but I’m not feeling the stress. I don’t know anyone who is more beloved more in my country than I am,” Chhetri said in the video.
