Indian soccer legend Sunil Chhetri announced on Thursday that he would be retiring in the International team following the Indian team’s World Cup qualifier game against Kuwait on June 6th. The announcement came as a shock to everyone, and Chhetri admitted that he has decided to put down his boots in order to grant additional opportunities to promising young strikers.

Sunil Chhetri posted an extended clip on X (previously Twitter) to declare that he would no more play for India following the game against Kuwait. Chhetri stated that it wasn’t due to fatigue or anything else however, he was looking for India to serve an opportunity and benefit India develop youngsters who are waiting for the chance to shine. that is not feasible if he was not around.
“It’s not because I was being tired. It’s not because I was experiencing one or the other. When I felt the urge that this should be my last game, I considered it for a long time. Then I made this conclusion,” Chhetri said in the video.
” I think it’s time for for our country to see the next number nine it is time that we build on it already we are a little bit handicapped because enough boys do not play as number nine is at the clubs and that’s a different topic we can talk about at least now when I’m not going to be there I am pretty sure there are so many of them are going to step up and they will need time,” the politician said.
