Ind vs Eng, India Squad for England – BCCI Selection Meeting: Selectors are scrambling for options as the list of injuries has only begun to grow. The only good news is that Ravindra Jadeja is likely to be fit for the England tour and so is Suryakumar Yadav. But Deepak Chahar is set to sit out longer than expected. He is likely to miss another two months of action.

As per a selection committee member, all three will be at the NCA in the coming days. And depending on their fitness, they will be considered for the England tour.

“They are not available for the South Africa series. But we are hopeful that Surya and Jaddu (Jadeja) will be fit for England tour. Even if they are not 100% by 15th, they will be sent with the team and will complete their rehab in England. As for Deepak, it will take another good month or so,” a member of the selection committee told us.

Deepak Chahar, Suryakumar Yadav and Ravindra Jadeja are all out of IPL 2022 with injuries. Chahar suffered a back injury while in rehab at the National Cricket Academy in Bengaluru. Ravindra Jadeja is nursing a bruised rib while Suryakumar Yadav has a muscle injury.

India Squad for England: India injury crisis

  • Deepak Chahar Quadricep injury – Still recovering
  • Ravindra Jadeja – Rib injury
  • Suryakumar Yadav – Muscle injury
  • Ajinkya Rahane (Hamstring injury)
  • Prithvi Shaw (Unfit and recovering from typhoid)

However, Washington Sundar and T Natarajan are all set to be available after making good progress. They will appear for a fitness test after IPL 2022 campaign. Washington Sundar will be rested for the South Africa series while Natarajan is set to play in South Africa series.

“Sundar and Natarajan have returned from injuries and are playing in the IPL. So, they are fit to play. But both will have to appear for a fitness test,” the selection committee member told us.

But Prithvi Shaw’s fitness is up for debate once again. The Delhi Capitals opener failed to clear BCCI’s mandatory Yo-yo test before IPL. While he was in fine form in the IPL 2022, he was hospitalised with typhoid. He is still not 100% and is unlikely to take part in the league stage matches for DC.

As for Team India, Shaw is still in the reckoning as backup option but only if he clears the mandatory fitness test.

“Look we don’t know what sort of fitness test is being conducted at his franchise. The team has certain guidelines when it comes to fitness and if he clears that, he will be selected. But if he fails that, he will have to wait until he does so,” the selection committee member added.

Prithvi Shaw is not the first player to fail the board’s mandatory fitness test. Varun Chakaravarthy and Rahul Tewatia both failed to clear the mandatory test last year. Tewatia is all set to be called in for a fitness test and he will be in the reckoning for South Africa series if he clears that.
